Human fat-powered boat?! Sounds weird, strange, odd. I found these news just recently and thought may be someone else haven't heard of fat-powered boat.

Peter Bethune, New Zealand adventurer, built a boat that is powered by human body fat. He is going to sail across the globe on the new super high speed fat-powered boat called Earthrace.

Suck the extra fat out of your body and give it to this guy. It isn’t a joke, Peter built an eco-boat, powered by bio-diesel made of fat from his backside. The inventor decided to use his fat first, but a doctor hardly got 100ml of fat, which wasn't enough to yield fuel. By contrast, a typical liposuction operation may snare 3kg of fat. Once refined that amount could produce three liters of refined biofuel – enough to drive Earthrace powerboat 2km.

This circumnavigation on the human fat-powered boat will need 65,000 liters of biodiesel. So, he will need more volunteers to go for liposuction to get the fat out of their bodies for powering his boat. Peter intends to set new world speed record for round-the-world trip in the fat-powered boat next year.

At last, all that body fat is useful for something - you can turn it into biofuel. Here's one solution for two problems - the oil crisis and the obesity epidemic. If only all the plastic surgeons gave free liposuction operations.

At first I thought the article describing human fat-powered boat was a joke. Then I watched the video and looked for other articles concerning fat-powered boat. I have heard of biodiesel before, using vegetable oil as fuel for modified diesel engines, but fat-powered boat is extreme.

In my opinion if someone is able to travel around the world by fat-powered boat with biodiesel only it will definitely inspire others to make choices that are more environmentally friendly. Not just with boats but with other transportation choices.
