| Maltese Falcon Unique Megayacht |
Maltese Falcon unique megayacht, which used to belong the multimillionaire Tom Perkins, is displayed for sale. Some say the initial price is $115 millions, but others assert this megayacht is selled at the the price of $180 millions. Tom Perkins controlled in detail all the stages of this 289-foot yacht building, which is the largest private sailing yacht in the world. This is a technical miracle, which was built by the Italian shipbuilders on the Perini Navi shipyard of the known marine builder Fabio Perini. Building of the Maltese Falcon megayacht was completed in 2006. She is possessing great number of international rewards in the category of megayacht.
Many dream to build an unusual yacht, but little succeed. The new yacht of Tom Perkins, appearance of which became the main event on the yacht exhibition in Monaco, autumn 2006, was personification of resolution to reach new horizons.
Some considered this project a madness. Some declared nothing would turn out. Both, apparently, knew poorly the owner of the Maltese Falcon yacht Tom Perkins, American multimillionaire, one of the founders of Kleiner, Perkins,
Caufield & Byers - successful company in the area of capital investments related to the risk. Tom Perkins is used to risk in business and decided to risk in the building of a new yacht. However, he is used to count his success, what he did in this case too.
The unique quality of this enormous megayacht is fully automated control of the sail system, the area of which is 26.000 square feet. The mechanisms of sail control are hidden in hollow glass-fiber masts. Time which is necessary to install the sails is 6 minutes. Maltese Falcon megayacht has two engines, 1800 HP each.
Comparatively small engines allow the yacht to speed up to 19,5 knot, but as well as any good sailing yacht, the Maltese Falcon is able to move faster under sail than by engines, so the actual index of the "motive force" can reach 300%. The speed record of the yacht made 20 knots under sail at wind speed of 28 knot this summer. The second important index is
a correlation between the motive force and the heeling moment because of sails. This value should be increased by folding and unfolding sails.
20 permanent members of the crew and a chief-cook make this megayacht not only the greatest but also the most comfortable one. Cabins for 12 guests, gymnasium, several dining rooms, saloon-reception-room. There is a numerous undersized fleet aboard the yacht at owners and guests services also.
In the interview to a journalist of the Wall Street Journal to the question "Why do you sell the yacht?" Tom Perkins answered "I like more to realize new technical and designer ideas in life, than to spend time aboard the launched yacht. Today the multimillionaire works at creation of the personal submarine boat which will be able to compete the engineering decisions with the Maltese Falcon.
