There are different types of powerboats: beautiful and not very beautiful, cool and not cool, old and very new... As they say, the load of knowledges never is heavy, and that’s why we offer you to broaden your horizons in the field of powerboats and motorboats – may be you’ll use it one day? We’ll begin with what powerboats and motorboats are like in general. If take hull material of a ship for classification basis, we’ll get the following set:
- inflatable;
- with a rigid side;
- with a rigid hull and inflatable side;
- wooden;
- plastic;
- glass-fibre-reinforced plastic;
- aluminium;
- combined (a hull is an aluminium, inside is glass-fibre-reinforced plastic);
- steel.
Glass-fibre-reinforced plasticand combined powerboats are the most popular from all this variety among lovers to fish and hunt water game or simply to drive on sea, river or lake spaces. Fully glass-fibre-reinforced plastic powerboat will perfectly fit those, who uses equipped moorage and doesn’t sail in unchecked places - wherein the underwater obstacles can hurt the bottom.
Hunters, fishermen and extreme-lovers need a powerboat with aluminium hull. High durability, wear resistance, in combination with lightness and wonderful outer appearance, - these are undoubted dignities of this class of ships. Mooring to the stony bank anywhere on the Karelian isthmus, owner of such a ship will be sure for 100% that it will not get a hole, and the rest will give him pleasure, not troubles. By the way hunters, border guards and workers of other departments and services who have to move a lot on water, n
ot especially analyzing the road, use combined powerboats.
Except for the division on material which a ship is made of, there are powerboats varieties based on the type of deck-house: without it (opened), with a semi-deckhouse and with a deck-house. Powerboats without a deck-house are especially popular in America. A steering console is placed behind windshield and is lowered to the sides level. Captain seat is low in such a powerboat, such as racing driver of "F1" has. Powerboats with a semi-deckhouse or a deck-house are widespread in Scandinavian region and Russia. Clearly, it’s warm in the USA, it’s pleasant there to float on waves with a breeze (as in a cabriolet). And on the North is cold and rainy, it’s better to hide under a roof, in a comfortable deck-house. You sit there, drive and do not wrinkle up your face!
Semi-deckhouse is when there are roof, front and lateral walls, and there is no back wall. A deck-house is a fully closed room. Both such superstructures, as a rule, raise above a deck (European style). By the way, a deck-house can be located on a center of the boat, shifted to the rostrum or to the side. This is the third variant of powerboats subdivision. If the deck-house has exits on each sides, where it’s possible to move from a stern to the rostrum and back, such location is called walk around.
Thereon, perhaps, we will finish with classification. We considered basic moments. However whatever a powerboat is, we should remember that there is no limit to perfection. By other words, there is a great number of methods to make out of old ordinary boat a first-class ship. We’ll list main shortly.
1. Name of the ship. There’s a saying: "How will you name a yacht, so it will sail". This assertion is also true in regard to powerboats and motorboats.
2. Pumps. Even "Titanic" managed to submerge – what else can we talk about small ships? Unfortunately, such disaster can happen with everybody. A pump, which is set on a powerboat and motorboat, will help you in a critical situation. We remind you once again: it’s impossible to economize on safety and to hope on something else!
And yet: relief fittings have to be closed in a boat at launching or it’s possible to submerge, not sailing away from a pier, and a pump will not help you!
3. Setting of lights, overall dimensions and horns. Headlights above a deck-house, headlights-finders, horns, dimensioning lights –- all of these will help to communicate with other ships, it’s much better to orient in fog and to avoid the collisions with other boat at a night-time and in the conditions of low visibility.
4. Echo-sounding devices and navigation. These are costly luxury, but it’s worthy of that. Echo-sounding device which is looking forward will show hindrance hidden by darkness or fog on the way of powerboat or motorboat. A device showing depths will warn about shoals (or even about large fish). The navigation systems are irreplaceable for travelers - it’s easily to orient with them and to find a shortest way to the final destination.
5. Fuel tank. Setting of additional fuel tank seems unnecessary trouble. Atraveler will be able to take on fuel at any gas-station easily,
having a fuel tank with the comfortable filler neck on a powerboat (or motorboat). It’s especial comfortable if the ship is transported by the car trailer: it’s not necessary to spend time with fuel cans.
6. Fastenings. These are various hand-rail, barriers, holders for spinnings, ladders, fastenings for water skis and etc. All these useful small things will heighten comfort during sailing. People who are afraid to fall out of boat to the water will feel themselves safely under thesteel protection on a rostrum or on a stern. It’s easier for women to climb on a boat by a concealed ladder. Not mentioning fishing already, when 5 or 6 spinnings are fastened above a deck-house, and the boat pulls minnows and hooks behind itself on decent speed. It’s easy to lose ground! All fish will be our!
7. Cabin and latrine. Certainly, you’ll want to rest after fishing or sail, to relax, to warm up yourself with a cup of hot tea. A comfortable cabin made by the individual order will help to do these. Designing, furniture, color of walls, illumination, music and even stove: so you need only to want it - and an ordinary boat will grow into a great floating house. And if you don’t want to look for the bathroom at uninhabited island, it’s better to put asmall dry closet on a ship (latrine is a marine word for this). We are sure: all guests will be pleasantly surprised and will remain high pleased by sailing on a such remarkable boat!
